What Are the Penalties for Misdemeanor Charges?
The following is a general outline of the penalties for some different misdemeanor charges:
- Class 3 misdemeanors are punishable by an up to $500 fine and 30 days of jail
- Class 2 misdemeanors can result in a four-month jail sentence and $750 fine
- Class 1 misdemeanors could lead to six months of jail and getting fined $2,500
Of course in certain cases, there can be aggravating factors that heighten the severity of the possible sentencing and of the charges themselves. There are also lighter sentences possible in some cases, such as if your attorney can convince a judge to grant probation or suspend your sentence if you can meet the court's terms, such as counseling, community service, and so forth.
