Defending Juvenile Criminal Charges
While a minor being tried in the juvenile courts won't have the right to a jury trial, a judge can hear their case, and this judge would ostensibly have the goal to rehabilitate the young offender such that they never wind up in the justice system again at any level. This could mean negotiating a sentence that involves counseling, community service, and so forth. However, if sentencing isn't lenient enough or doesn't provide the treatment or other resources that a minor needs, then the accused individual could be left to deal with lessened or eliminated education possibilities, job qualifications, and more.
In some cases, a minor can be tried as if they were an adult over the age of 18, in which case the potential penalties and conviction on one's criminal record can become that much more serious.
